September 2023 | Portage Lakefront and Riverwalk Trail at Indiana Dunes National Park, 2.0 miles, easy, 6.5 hours north of Nashville, TN

I recently took a trip to New Buffalo, Michigan to hike and enjoy the beaches of Lake Michigan. The area is filled with dunes to hike, water to swim in, and sunsets to watch. It’s an easy seven hour drive from Nashville. The other trails I explored during this trip can be found under “Michigan Trekking”.

The Portage Lakefront and Riverwalk Trail at Indiana Dunes National Park is located in Portage, IN and offers great views of Lake Michigan and it’s rivers.

The trail begins at the beach welcome center and loop around by a canal and back to the beach. The trail is short, easy, and paved. 

There is a boardwalk out into the lake but it was closed for repair while I was visiting. 

Restrooms are available near the parking lot.
